We are now in korea

We just landed in Korea and will be here for a few hours waiting for our next flight. I will post pictures as soon as I find my dohiky that I put my card in to. My next update will be in Davao city

On our way

We have started on the first leg of our journey. We are all very excited to be starting on this trip! I am a little home sick at the moment but I am sure that it will go away when we get to Davao and start working. Right now we are in hurry up and wait. We have most of our group here but will be meeting up with two of them in L.A. It is raining in Seattle but that is no surprise, we can not wait to get into some warmer weather.

Almost There!

I have four more days until I am no longer working! I am so excited to be done. It has been a very good experience for me, I have learned people skills and how to work when I do not really want to. All in all it has be a great experience.

I can not quite figure out if I am thrilled to be going or if I am terrified. I think that it a little of both.

On May the 7th I will be going to a benefit garage sale and bake sale that a local chiropractor is putting on for us ladies, all of the proceeds will go to the girls that show up.

I got the neatest swimsuit for my trip. I wanted something that would be modest but feminine at the same time so my mom when and found Hydrochick. I love my swimsuit!

New toy! Okay not really.

One of the things that I have worried about on my trip is getting sick. I do not want to go over there to deliver babies and spend any of that time ill. So I started doing some research and found out that most common way to get sick is water! That is a very easy thing to watch out for! Only drink bottled water when in town and filter the rest. So without further ado here is my "new toy"

A new philosophy on life

On Saturday I went to meet up with the "Birthing Master" for a class on suturing.  Now, I always love talking to this midwife.  She is very up beat person and has a great out look on life. She is the kind of lady that does not see the bad in people! I am not saying that she does not "see" bad, but she chooses not to see it. I really think that if some one insulted her it would probably just role off her like water on a duck! I am not saying that she is a perfect person, she has bad days just like all of us, but all in all they are rare and far and few between.

Okay, back to Saturday.  I was telling her that I was kinda worried about our itinerary that we have received to look over ( we will be getting our tickets this week). The one thing that I really did not want was a layover in Korea because of the hostilities between South Korea and North Korea.  I am a bit of a worry wort sometimes and have been a little stressed about this. Well, Mrs Rogers just laughed at me and said "God in in charge".  Of course I know that, but sometimes it is easer said then done - this trusting in God business.  I was telling her that I know that "God is in charge" but I still worry and she told me something that really stuck  with me.  She said " until God decides that it is time for me to come home I am invincible".  That got me thinking and you know - I think that she is right! Not only that but God himself told me the same thing!  Right here in Psalms 91;

 Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High
   will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.^[a]
2 I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
   my God, in whom I trust.”
 ³ Surely he will save you
   from the fowler’s snare
   and from the deadly pestilence.

Book Review

So, the midwife that I apprentice with, affectionately called the "Birthing Master",  gave me a book recently and I would like to share a review with you.

The book is called "A Book For Midwifes" by Susan Klein, Suellen Miller, and Fiona Thomson. It is published by the same publisher that published "Where There Is No Doctor".  I love this book!  It is hands down the best book for people who want to know all of the ins and outs of midwifery.  It is written for health workers in third world countries and it is the most helpful and user friendly book that I have seen. It is the ultimate "prepper" book for anything to do with prenatal and birth care. It will teach you how to fix common ailments with uncommon remedies - for instance, if you have anemia put a clean iron nail into a glass and add lemon juice and let it sit all night. Drink this concoction mixed with some water and Viola you have an iron supplement!

Be aware, this is not a book that you should let little children see!!! It does not have any real pictures but it does have some graphic drawings. It is very comprehensive and  will show you how to do things that you would not learn any where else.  All in all I highly recommend this book if you have any interest in learning how to become a midwife or if you want to have it "just in case".
